VK has officially confirmed the purchase of Zen and News.
According to the terms of the deal with Yandex, VK will become the owner of the Zen and News content platforms and transfer the Delivery Club service for the delivery of ready-made food and groceries to Yandex.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2022 after receiving a number of regulatory approvals. After the change of ownership, Zen will develop as a separate independent brand: with its own team and already existing technologies.
Zen and News services will become available on the Zen portal after the closing of the deal – it will be the former media main Yandex, which will come under the control of VK. Also, VK will receive the rights to technologies and trademarks of Zen and News.
The Zen.ru portal will also host other services and the Yandex search string. Zen will retain the existing content monetization tools for authors, and platform users will be able to choose where it is more convenient for them to read and watch content: on the dzen.ru portal from the desktop version or in the Zen mobile application.
Recall that Yandex agreed with VK on the sale of Zen and News in April, then an agreement was signed on the main terms of the transaction, which were kept secret.
