What Was The Yandex Baden-Baden Update?

On March 23rd 2017, Yandex released the Baden Baden update.

Similar to what some of Google’s content updates have done in the past – the Baden Baden update was focused on making it harder for websites with over-optimized, keyword stuffed texts to rank for competitive keywords, thus allowing better quality results to shine through.

A mere two weeks later, on April 7th 2017, the Baden Baden filter was enhanced to not only demote the ranking positions of spammy HTML documents, but to also demote and exclude domains that have been judged guilty of using the practice from search results altogether.

The Baden-Baden filter is responsible for a large number of websites either being demoted or excluded from rankings, through the misuse of keywords within content and practices such as:

  • Optimizing for keyword density
  • Keyword stuff
  • TF*IDF practices

Baden Baden poses a real threat to SEO campaigns, if they are spammy or try and game the search engine.
