Yandex Have Launched A Self-Isolation Index

This is one for the data nerds.

Whilst the world is battling against Coronavirus through stringent isolation and quarantine measures, Yandex have used the many data sources available at their disposal and formed a self-isolation index.

The self-isolation index is an integrated indicator, calculated on data on the use of various Yandex applications and services. It can be used for informational purposes for an approximate assessment of the situation, but not for accurate calculations.

Yandex’s self-isolation graph, filterable by major city.

To have a baseline, data was taken from pre-isolation (March 2nd to March 5th) and then has been scaled to form a score of 1 to 5.

If the city is quiet, like at night, this is 5 points. The higher the score, the more difficult it is for the virus to spread.

At the moment, city scores are averaging 3 points (out of 5).
