Yandex Introduce New Caching Mechanism, NativeCache

A new caching mechanism from Yandex will speed up the work of almost any site: a page in a browser after clicking on a link to a site opens “in a split second”.

The cache in the Yandex application and browser reduces page load times. The mechanism works best on sites implemented on the Single-page application (SPA) and Progressive web app (PWA) technologies.

Yandex’s documentation on the new caching mechanism describes the benefits of implementing the new technology as:

  • On average, website page loading speed increases by 10%. *as established during beta testing.
  • When caching static files, you can also save page templates, which means that only data to fill these pages will be transmitted over the network.
  • This mechanism works best on sites implemented using SPA technology.

Caching is nothing new in web development. Browsers regularly cache content to avoid downloading the same files over and over. However, the mechanism for managing this type of caching is different from how NativeCache works.

Steps on how to implement native caching, as a part of Turbo, can be found here.
