Yandex, LANIT, Gigabyte, and VTB To Launch Servers In Russia

Yandex launches production of servers in cooperation with the LANIT group of companies, computer equipment manufacturer Gigabyte and VTB Bank. The companies will create a joint venture that will open a development center – it will design servers and offer its products in Russia and abroad. This agreement was signed today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2021).

For the production of servers, the JV will build a plant in Russia. The plant will produce servers and storage systems for data centers, as well as gateways and components for smart devices, for example, for the Internet of Things. The first servers should be released as early as 2022.

Yandex and Gigabyte will provide patents, technologies and their own development of server hardware. Gigabyte specialists will also be engaged in launching and debugging production. Yandex and LANIT will allocate investments for the project, in addition, Lanit will provide distribution and service centers. VTB will act as a financial investor in the JV.

Even before the opening of the plant, Yandex plans to partially transfer the production of its servers from China and Taiwan to Russia. The company will not only install these servers in its own data centers and use them to expand the Yandex.Cloud cloud platform, but together with partners will offer them to the market. Yandex servers can be used for storing information, machine learning, working with big data, and other tasks.

According to the International Data Corporation, the server hardware market in Russia at the end of 2020 was estimated at $ 1.3 billion and grew by more than 18% over the year.
