Yandex.Rover Connects To Third-Party Stores

Unmanned robotic couriers Yandex.Rovers began delivering groceries from stores and orders from restaurants in Moscow’s Khamovniki district. The service has already been activated by Azbuka Vkusa, Vkusville and about 40 cafes and restaurants.

Delivery by a robot can be selected when placing an order in the Yandex.Food and Yandex Go applications. An employee of a supermarket or restaurant will collect the order, load it into the Rover and send the robot to the specified address. When the order is delivered, the user will receive a notification, and the “Open the lock” button will appear in the application.

Rovers can deliver orders up to 20kg. There is no clear number of delivery robots in the area – it will depend on the flow of orders.

Yandex also reported that in the coming days they will launch delivery by a robot from Yandex.Lavka in Khamovniki. The company is already using robotic couriers for orders from Lavka on Khodynka and in the Airport metro area.

Note that Yandex plans to launch a pilot autonomous delivery service in the near future using Yandex.Rovers in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States, as well as to enter the markets of Israel and South Korea.
