Yandex Self-Driving Cars Present At CES 2020

In 2020, the company decided to bring autopilot cars to the CES for the second time.

In 2020, the total mileage of cars for 6 days amounted to 7,000 km, and the cars moved around the city of Las Vegas without a test engineer at the wheel, which made the domestic company the first to test self-driving cars in real conditions without a driver. The traffic conditions of the cars were very different: in the daytime and in the dark, during busy hours with heavy traffic and even in the rain. The route included regular multilane sections, as well as regulated and unregulated intersections, and even turns with oncoming traffic. As a result of testing, we can say that the company conducted an excellent demonstration of the technology.

It is worth noting that more than 100 people became passengers of unmanned cars, including the vice-governor of Michigan, Garlin Gilchrist.

Dmitry Polishchuk, the head of the company’s unmanned vehicles division said that:

We were delighted to showcase our cars again at CES in Las Vegas. Yandex has the experience of operating unmanned vehicles without a man driving in Innopolis, but for us, it is important to be able to test our technology in new conditions. So far, there are literally several places around the world where this is permitted, and it is important for us to use this. In addition, CES is a chance to show a large number of people in practice what our technology is capable of.
