During the fantastic Optimization 2020 virtual conference, Yandex unveiled that they are planning a major update, centered around Snippets (Rich Results) – and beginning with eCommerce.
This was revealed by Elena Pershina, the Head of B2B Marketing for Non-Advertising Services at Yandex.
Rich results in Yandex have been changing a lot in Yandex recently; with Snippets being based on Turbo Pages, and the now abandoned “Products and Prices” affiliate program.
Yandex are abandoning the Prices and Products program due to the low quality data it was receiving. This lead to discrepancies between the product images and prices being shown in the Snippet to what was then on the actual page, leading to a disappointing and frustrating user experience.
To avoid these issues, the Snippet Partner Program is getting an overhaul, and the new data feed will be based primarily on structured data based via a XML feed. The speed of updates being replicated in search results pages will also be significantly increased.
