Russian Search News Turns 4

With post 688 of the website, we’re celebrating turning 4 years old!

When I started this website back in November 2019, the idea was to become one of the leading Western websites covering all things Yandex, and international marketing (and SEO) relating to Russia.

Since the website started I’ve been fortunate to have spoken twice (virtually) at Optimization, the premier Russian search marketing conference organized by Ashmanov & Partners, as well as had the chance to meet some fantastic SEOs in the Russian space.

The events of 2022 have greatly changed how we cover the happenings in the Russian search market, as the market itself adapted to the change. Yandex sold off News and Dzen to Vkontakte, international businesses ceased servicing the Russian market, and a number of SEOs moved to pastures new.

As a website, we also evolved, and for 13 months (and 59 articles) the wonderful Aleksandra Kelesh contributed to the site. It’s bittersweet that as we celebrate turning four, I also need to thank Aleks as she moves onto pastures new, and for being here for the journey.

2024

As we look forward to another year of covering Russian SEO, for 2024 we will be making changes to the site.

When we first started, we published (at least) three times a week, with monthly roundups.

Moving forward, we will be working to publish weekly as well as provide more comprehensive monthly roundups, and continuing our coverage of Russian webmaster forum chatter and confirmed/unconfirmed algorithm updates.

We’ll also be maintaining the Yandex algorithm update timeline page.

Here’s to celebrating again in another year, and thank you to everyone who reads our articles, shares them, and engages!
