At YaC 2023, Yandex presented an update to its mapping service. Maps have become even more detailed – they can show new details about places and organizations in the selected city.
Places that serve as city landmarks, such as museums, temples or theaters, now have photographs attached to their markers, making it easy to recognize the building in real life. And short descriptions were added to the organization tags: for example, “Vietnamese cuisine” or “scenic place.” They are compiled by YandexGPT based on user reviews.
Descriptions allow you to quickly get an idea of a place. If you click on a label, Yandex Maps will show other places from the same category within a radius of two kilometers so that you can compare them with each other.
Organization cards have also been updated. They now have videos that help you learn more about the interior and atmosphere of the place. Organization owners and Maps users have already uploaded about 650 thousand videos for more than 215 thousand organizations.
In the cards there is a section “Briefly about the place” – these are interactive stories written by YandexGPT. The neural network analyzes reviews and selects the most characteristic moments. From stories you can learn about the main features of a place, and if you are interested in it, build a route to it, call or go to the website.
