Yandex launches production of OpenYard servers

Yandex is launching the production of its own OpenYard servers in Ryazan, Kommersant reports with reference to the director of Promobit (manufacturer of Bitblaze servers and storage systems) Maxim Koposov. According to him, Yandex expects to declare the equipment in the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in order to gain access to public procurement.

Yandex, Lanit, VTB, and Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Gigabyte have signed an agreement to build a server plant in Ryazan in 2021. Now the construction of the plant is completed, and this year it is already planned to start production.

According to the executive director of the Association of Developers and Manufacturers of Electronics Ivan Pokrovsky, Yandex will primarily produce equipment for itself, and submitting servers to the register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade is of secondary importance. Another Kommersant source in the electronics market said that OpenYard equipment could take about 10% of the market.

According to Mikhail Volkov, Chief Executive Officer of F+ tech, the demand for domestic products on the market is still acute. The appearance of another player will encourage competition, which will ultimately have a positive effect on the market and product quality.

Yandex revenue grew by 54% in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, and amounted to 163.3 billion rubles, adjusted net profit – 2.6 billion rubles.
