Google reports on the fight against spam for 2022

Google introduced a new search with generative AI

Google released its 2022 Search Spam Report:

  • The Spambrain algorithm, which aims to detect spam, has seen many changes in 2022. As a result, Spambrain found 5 times more spam than in 2021 and 2020, and 99% of clicks from searches contained no spam.
  • Spambrain also found 50 times more sites containing spammy links in its latest December update than it had previously found.
  • The algorithm improved the performance of search for hacked sites by 10 times.
  • Google has implemented several anti-spam solutions besides Spambrain. Thanks to this, clicks on fraudulent sites in search decreased by 50% compared to 2021.

Google has also updated its spam policy for Google Web Search.

In addition, against the backdrop of the growing popularity of AI services for content generation, Google mentioned that it is not opposed to such services as long as the content created by them does not violate the rules of the search engine.
